Abstract
1,208,429. Hay conditioners; mowers. SPERRY RAND CORP. 31 Oct., 1967 [30 Jan., 1967], No. 49327/67. Heading A1F. A combined hay-harvesting and hayconditioning machine has separate adjustment units for adjusting the height of a header above the ground and adjusting the angle of the header relative to the ground. The machine 10 comprises a draw frame 14 one end of which is hitched to a tractor the other end journalling a rockshaft 21, a wheel arm 22 rigidly attached to rockshaft 21 and carrying a support wheel 23, and a header 15 that is pivotally mounted on rockshaft 21. The header 15 comprises a subframe resiliently supported by springs 92, 93 for supporting crop treating elements and consists of a pair of side panels 42, a guide plate 44 and a crop engaging bar 45. A reel 48 between the side panels 42 is described in Specification 1,034,616. A pair of conditioner rolls 60, 61 are journalled in the header subframe behind the reel 48. A cutter bar 68 is mounted at the forward end of the header and is driven by means described in Specification 1,034,616. The height of the header relative to the ground is determined by positioning the pin 115 on the cutter bar, in one of three notches 112 provided on the skid shoe 100. Corresponding support is provided at the rear of the shoe, holes 111 co-operating with fastener (108) (Fig. 2, not shown) that clamps the skid shoe to the cutter bar. Angular adjustment of the header is provided by rotating lever 89, rigidly attached to the rockshaft 21, with the extension of a piston in hydraulic actuator 85 one end of which is pivotally mounted on bracket 87 fixed to draw frame 14. A pin 95 fixed to each wheel arm extends through a slot 96 in each link 94 to provide a lost-motion connection. Within the limits of slots 96, the actuator 85 pivots the rockshaft 21 to move draw frame 14 vertically upwards. At the end of the slot movement the actuator pivots the header upward. Telescopic stay 91 limits the angle of the header relative to the frame 14 and is provided with three locations 120 corresponding to the three adjustments of the skid shoe.
