Abstract

1,208,179. Slip rings for dynamo-electric machines. VEREINIGUNG VOLKSEIGENER BETRIEBE ELEKTROGERATE. 17 Dec., 1968, No. 59950/68. Heading H2A. A slip-ring assembly comprises a number of (carbon) slip-rings, each spaced from its neighbour(s) by separate supporting bodies 1 of moulded plastics material, each such body comprising a hub of smaller diameter than the internal diameter of the slip-rings, ridges 3 on the outer surface of the hub providing support for the rings, and radial arms 4 extending between the neighbouring slip-rings. Currentcarrying clamping bolts 2 extend through holes 8, 7 bored in the arms and the slip-rings, being spaced from the latter by bushings 5, and the whole assembly may be embedded in a hardenable resin. To assist the penetration of the resin both the internal and external surfaces of the bushings may be tapered to give them a frustoconical form, and the slip-ring supporting surfaces 3 may be similarly tapered in the axial direction. Further, all these surfaces, together with faces 6 of the arms 4, may be corrugated. The extremities of arms 4 may be tapered and provided with projections 9 (Fig. 2, not shown) which engage corresponding recesses in the adjacent slip-rings. The hubs are locked to each other by mutually engaging projections and recesses. The assembly may be locked to the shaft of the machine in a similar way, or by forcing it against a frusto-conical disc (20, Fig. 12, not shown) thereon. The slip-rings may be provided with recesses 12, Fig. 7, between the bolt holes 7 to improve the current distribution in them.
