Abstract

1,207,162. Purifying solid peroxides. ARGUS CHEMICAL CORP. 23 Oct., 1967, No. 48102/67. Heading C2C. Solid fatty acid peroxides having at least 20 carbon atoms are separated from water and other impurities by adjusting the temperature of the mixture to above the melting point of the peroxide but below its decomposition point, separating the aqueous phase with impurities from the liquid peroxide phase while maintaining the liquid phase above its melting point, and then cooling the dry, purified peroxide phase. Temperatures about 2 to 3 degrees above the melting point are generally preferred. Separation may be carried out by conventional means. The process is preferably carried out using an alkaline impure mixture.
