Abstract

1,206,588. Electric motors. MATTHEWS & YATES Ltd. 2 Oct., 1967 [5 Oct., 1966 (2)], Nos. 44574/66 and 44575/66. Heading H2A. A brushless electric motor comprises a disc rotor 20 located between a pair of stators 25 each of circular ring sector construction with coil-accommodating slots 26 substantially radial to the rotor centre and spaced from a rotor face by a minimum air-gap the stators furthermore being supported by a carrier 28 slidable in a bracket 30 by a screw 29 in order to adjust their radial position relative to the rotor to give a speed variation. The disc may be of aluminium or comprise inner and outer metal shorting rings (21, 22) interconnected by radial bars (23) Fig 4; each stator is of laminated electrical steel strip, and not all the slots may be used by the two tier two or four pole winding. There may be more than one pair-of such stators, and in a modification Fig. 7, there is provided a further pair of stators (32) constructed to rotate the disc at a significantly lower speed.
