Abstract

1,205,865. Inhibiting sonic boom on aircraft. H. PREUSS. 24 June, 1968, No. 29994/68. Heading B7W. A device for reducing the supersonic boom caused by aircraft in the direction of the earth's surface, Fig. 9, comprises reflecting surfaces 1, 2 attached under the fuselage 3 and wings 4 respectively, by the supports 7 and 8. The surface 1 which may be hollow, may be filled completely or in part with damping material, carry an electric charge, or be pressurized, is convex with respect to the fuselage, as shown in Fig. 9, and is positioned such that it is in the area of the sonic boom wave caused by the fuselage in supersonic flight; the surfaces 2 are similarly positioned to reflect the boom wave of the wings. The surface 1 is adjustably mounted and its position may be altered by means of an electronic computer.
