Abstract

1,204,731. Inductive signalling. J. F. TONNIES. 14 Sept., 1967 [16 Sept., 1966], No. 41995/67. Heading H4U. [Also in Division G1] A method of transferring electrobiological data from a patient to a fixed recording apparatus uses inductive transmission of a carrier frequency which is frequency-modulated by said data. A primary coil is fixed relatively to the patient and a secondary coil is disposed so as to be inductively coupled thereto. The amplified output signal from the secondary coil is recorded on magnetic tape without demodulation, a suitable carrier frequency being selected (e.g. between 1000 and 20,000 Hz.). A single primary coil may be fixed to the head of a patient, with its axis directed along his length. Another primary coil coupled to a separate secondary coil may be fixed at the patient's feet, with its axis at right-angles to that of the other primary coil. Data relating to heart beats may be transmitted in short bursts on a distinctive carrier frequency.
