A packing plate, e.g. injection moulded from synthetic plastics, comprises reinforcing ribs 2, 3 extending across its middle and around its periphery respectively. Upstanding projections 6, whose heights are greater than twice their diameters, located between the ribs 2 engage, e.g. spool cores. A base area 4 surrounding the projections 6 is recessed so that in the event of damage a projection 6 can be milled out and a new flanged one inserted from below without increasing the overall base thickness.
