Abstract

1,203,977. Cleaning containers; endless conveyers; tipping containers. DAWSON BROS. Ltd. 22 Nov., 1968 [23 Nov., 1967], No. 53301/67. Headings B8A, B8E and B8P. An apparatus for handling bottle crates, cases, boxes or like receptacles for emptying them of debris and/or for washing or otherwise treating them comprises a stationary helical track 2 extending longitudinally of the apparatus, means for feeding the crates &c. successively into the track and means for propelling them along the track, the cases &c. being guided by the track, so that the cases &c. are inverted and then reinverted in their passage through the apparatus. In the construction shown the first means comprises a feed conveyer 10 followed by an accelerator conveyer 11 which embodies a case-release mechanism. The second means consists, of bars 12 depending from an endless chain conveyer, gaps being provided in the track 2 for the passage thereof (Figs. 2A, 2B, not shown). At the first inversion debris is released into a debris tray 3. Means may be provided for shaking the cases &c. at this station. The cases &c. are then washed from spray pipes 4 supplied from a pump 5, then drained, cleaned by a blower fan 6, rinsed with hot liquid supplied by a pump through pipes 7, drained again and then finally dried by a blower fan.
