Abstract

1,203,449. Preventing incrustation. ALBRIGHT & WILSON (MFG) Ltd. Nov.15, 1967 [Nov. 16, 1966], No. 52066/67. Heading C7E. Scaling in, for example, industrial watersystems, is prevented by adding to water, from which CaCO3 or other scale-forming material may be precipitated, an alkali metal molecularly condensed phosphate having a molar ratio of alkali metal oxide to P2O5 of 1:1 to 2:1, such as Natripolyphosphate, and a water-soluble polyacrylamide wherein 10-40% of the amide groups have been hydrolyzed or a water-soluble substituted polyacrylamide such as sulphonated methylol polyacrylamide. Preferably the ratio of condensed phosphate to polyacrylamide is from 5:1 to 1:3. The combined content of the condensed phosphate and polyacrylamide in the water may be up to 100 p. p. m.
