Abstract

1,203,299. Impregnating wood. C. M. MALFROY & CO. Ltd. 24 Nov., 1967 [24 Nov., 1966], No. 53650/67. Heading D1P. In a controlled method for the impregnation of wood with a solution of a preservative by the repeated alternate application of high and low pressure, the high and low pressure and the duration thereof in each succeeding cycle are automatically set at values in accordance with a predetermined pattern (on punched tape) dependant on the requirements of the wood being treated, overriding variation from the pattern being possible. The low and/or high pressure is altered in each succeeding cycle, the pressure difference remaining the same or being altered. The pressure in the treatment vessel is measured by a mercury manometer having probes or other level-sensing devices which, at particular pressures open or close valve-operating electrical circuits. The low pressure may be above or below atmospheric.
