[Also in Division B8] A dispensing device for sowing seeds in an even manner consists of an upwardly tapering member 45 rotatable about its vertical axis of symmetry and having a top region 53 of minimum taper, a predetermined quantity of seeds being discharged on to this region 53 by valve means which may include a cam operated vertically movable sleeve 35. The seeds are retained at the base of member 45 by a close fitting wall 57 which is stationary relative to the axis of rotation of member 45. The bottom of member 45 is extended by a radially serrated flange 55 which slopes slightly downwards. Wall 57 is displaced outwardly at one point to permit a scraper blade 59 to remove seeds from the flange 55 of the slowly rotating member 45 and move them outwardly to fall down a shoot 61. Seed is stored in a compartment 21 in drum 25 which rotates in a casing 29. An aperture 31 in casing 29 allows seeds to fall through a funnel 33 into the sleeve 35. This sleeve is attached to a lever 37 which is actuated by rotation of a cam wheel 41 to lift sleeve 35 and allow discharge of seeds. Drum 25 rotates through 1/16 of a revolution for one rotation of the cam wheel so that only one portion of seed is discharged from the sleeve at any one time. The storage drum 25, the cam wheel 41 and member 45 are all driven by a common drive from a land wheel. A seed planter may consist of eight of these dispensers mounted together on a self propelled frame. Drum 25 may be replaced by the drum and hopper arrangement disclosed in Specification 1,203,272.
