Abstract

1,203,151. Power driven brushes. SONASTREAM CORP. 21 Feb., 1968 [11 Dec., 1967], No. 8525/68. Heading A4K. [Also in Division H4] Vibrations in the sonic range are set up in the handle of a toothbrush and transmitted to the bristles or pad, by means of paraboloidal nose cone 16<SP>1</SP>, acting as an impedance transformer. The casing 10 may consist of three parts 12, 14 and (16) welded together or it may be moulded in one piece. The parts may, alternatively, be screwed together. The vibration may be produced by an electromagnetic vibrator or a solid state oscillator. A secondary cell 40, optionally of the Cd. type, having a re-charging socket 44, energizes an electric motor 30, driving an unbalanced disc 54 at, preferably, 90-100 revs./sec. The vibrations are transmitted to the brush head, through a flattened detachable stem 22 of channel or hollow section, and are stated to effect cleaning of the teeth, by acoustic streaming and not physical contact. In a modified form of disc, the degree of unbalance may be adjusted by rotating a nut (82, Fig. 8, not shown).
