Abstract

1,202,853. Guiding lifts round bends in the shaft. R. E. MEYER. 9 Jan., 1969 [17 Jan., 1968], No. 1405/69. Heading B8L. The hoisting cables 40, Fig. 1, of a lift car 18 are guided round a bend in the shaft by a carriage 60, which moves down the shaft with the car until it is arrested in the position shown in Fig. 1, by stops 14a. The floor 22, Fig. 2, of the car is tilted about an axis 23 so that it remains horizontal throughout the length of the shaft. Upper and lower clusters of guide wheels 31, 32 co-operate with rectangular guide rails 14 and the guides tilt about horizontal axes as the car negotiates the bends. A control panel 38 in the car is supplied through a cable 39 which is guided by the carriage 60 and wound in and paid out by a drum 47. The carriage 60 is unlatched from the top of the car as it descends by a cam 14b and is locked to the guide 14 by a locking bar 68, Fig. 4. The locking bar is disengaged by the carriage when the latter abuts a lever 74. Two hoist cables 40, 41, Fig. 9, are provided and if either cable breaks dogs 54 engage the guide rails and arrest the car. Tension in the cables acts through levers 53, 57, 58, against springs 59, to hold the dogs 54 in their inoperative positions.
