Abstract
1,202,780. Centrifugal separators. SIEMENS A.G. 20 Nov., 1968 [21 Nov., 1967 (2); 28 Nov., 1967], No. 55140/68. Heading B2P. An apparatus for separating a mixture of two components comprises a cylindrical separating chamber 4, Figs. 1 and 2, an inlet 5 for the mixture opening into the cylindrical wall in a non-radial direction, e.g. tangentially, so as to impart to the mixture a rotary movement about the axis of the chamber, coaxial tubular projections 7 extending into the chamber from its end walls 6 for the discharge of the lighter component and apertures 8 in the regions adjacent the end walls for discharge of the heavier component. The apparatus is particularly suitable for separating steam-water mixtures in a steam generator. As shown, separating chambers 4 are located in a horizontally arranged tubular header 1 of a steam generator with their axes parallel to the header axis. Alternatively their axes may be coaxial with or at an angle to the header axis. A number of steam-water mixture inlets 5 may be provided at one and the same peripheral line for each chamber 4. Each chamber 4 may have a greater diameter in the middle than at the ends and its diameter may decrease uniformly towards each end. The tubular projections 7 may incorporate baffle plates as flowcorrecting means. The header has water outlet conduits 2 and steam outlet conduits 3. In Fig. 3, partition walls 9 are welded into the header 1 to divide it into steam-conducting chambers 10 and water-conducting chambers 11. The separating chambers 4 are mounted in the chambers 11 and are spaced from the partition walls 9 by gaps 14 constituting the separated water outlets. The water discharge conduits 2 may lead to a steam-water separating vessel with constant water level in which any steam entrained with the water is separated and conducted each of the chambers 10 via conduits 16. Any water entrained with the steam discharging via the tubular projections 7 into the chambers 10 can flow out through the conduits 16. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), partition walls (9) with the separating chamber (4) and the tubular projections (7) and part of mixture inlet conduits (5), (13) are secured by welding in a tubular member (15) which is provided with a water outlet opening and is fitted as a unit within the header. In Figs. 6 and 7, the annular space between the separating chambers 4 and the inner wall surface of the header 1 is subdivided by radial partition walls 19, 20, 21 into a water-discharge chamber 22, steam-discharge chamber 23 and steam-water mixture-inlet chamber 24, these chambers extending over the entire length of the header. Each chamber has a tangential inlet 17 for the steam-water mixture. Tubular elements 25 are arranged between the individual separating chambers 4 and are provided with upper longitudinal slots for the discharge of steam issuing from the tubular projections 7 into the steam-discharge chambers 23, the steam then flowing via conduits 29 into downstream boiler heating surfaces.
