Abstract

1,202,211. Aircraft emergency apparatus. M. L. AVIATION CO. Ltd. 31 Jan., 1968 [10 Nov., 1966], No. 50484/60. Heading B7G. An aircraft flight recorder 5, which is buoyant (e.g. by having a floatable tank 6 attached thereto) is ejected from an aircraft when the aircraft sinks after ditching by apparatus comprising a releasable cover 15 covering an opening to the location of the flight recorder, a normally shut valve (e.g. a flap 17) sealing the location from the exterior of the cover, an ejection device (e.g. a spring 10) for ejecting the flight recorder outwardly through the opening, and a mechanism (e.g. a barometric switch 19 activated by water entering the inlet 20) which on actuation opens the valve 17 to flood the location thereby relieving the pressure differential across the cover, releases the cover and also causes the ejection device to operate. The barometric switch 19 when triggered withdraws a pin 21 allowing the spring 50 to collapse a toggle linkage 22, 23 which in turn withdraws a hook 24 releasing the spring 10, and via a linkage 28 to 32 withdraws a hook 36 releasing the cover 15 and the flap 17. There may be three hooks 36 and three flaps 17 moved together by three links 30 moved together by an interconnection 70. The flight recorder 5 may be connected to aircraft instruments by a cable 7 having two push in connectors 8, 9 of which at least one disconnects when the recorder is ejected.
