Abstract
1,201,790. Cooling dynamo electric machines. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 27 Dec., 1967 [27 Dec., 1966], No. 58648/67. Heading H2A. In a gas cooled turbo-generator the coolant gas is passed through radial channels between the stator laminations into the air gap and by the effect of rotation is drawn through cooling channels in the rotor winding slots formed between the bundle of conductors in the slots and the insulated slot wall. In the form shown, the bundle of conductors 8, consisting of individual insulated conductors glued together, is spaced from slot wall insulation 7 by a spacer 9 which is provided by an insulating tape helically wound on the bundle with a pitch several times greater than the width of the tape. Coolant is drawn in through slots 12 and travels around the conductor bundle through the space 24 to outlet 13 on the opposite side of the conductor bundle. In a modification axially spaced distance pieces are bent around the bottom of the bundle and on one side extend to the top of the conductor as a rectangular piece and on the other side of the bundle as a triangular piece, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). In this construction the coolant again flows from an inlet on one side of the bundle to an outlet on the other side. In a further modification the spacers comprise axially spaced tongues glued to the top and sides of the conductor bundle and having a length less than the depth of the slot. Coolant flows around the tongues but is restricted to flow on one side of the bundle only, Figs. 10-13 (not shown). If the tongues consist of superposed layers of material the ends may be secured between the conductors in the bundle.
