Abstract
1,200,276. Jointing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 10 Dec., 1968 [8 April, 1968], No. 58573/68. Heading B3V. [Also in Division F2] A method of making an electrode for use in electrical machining comprises placing an inner electrically conductive member within a dielectric easing made from a heat-shrinkable resilient, thermoplastic terephthalate ester of a dihydric alcohol, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, heating the casing above its softening point but below its melting point to shrink the casing into contact with the inner member while expelling gas from therebetween and then heating the casing in the range of from its melting point up to 15‹ C. thereabove. In an example disclosed the inner member is of titanium and has an outside diameter of 0À01 to 0À5 inch and the casing has a wall thickness of 0À0005 to 0À005 inch. Before the melting of the casing a further metallic member may be placed about the outside of the casing (Fig. 5, not shown). The further metallic member may be closed at one end by welding an end plate thereon after the second heating operation. Apertures are drilled in the side wall of the electrode so produced.
