Abstract

1,199,574. Marking silicone rubber articles. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 25 Oct., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966], No. 49673/66. Heading C3T. [Also in Division B2] A silicone rubber article having thereon a visible marking is obtained by applying to the shaped silicone rubber stock a pigmented, heatvulcanizable composition comprising (a) 100 parts by wt. of a diorganopolysiloxane of viscosity at least 5000 cS/25‹ C. in which at least 50% of the organic radicals are methyl or ethyl radicals, any others being vinyl, phenyl or trifluoropropyl radicals, and (b) 10-230 parts of a benzene-soluble resin having units R 3 SiO 0 . 5 and SiO 2 only, in the ratio 0À5-0À9 : 1, each R being a methyl, ethyl, vinyl, propyl, phenyl or trifluoropropyl radical, and thereafter heating the article to effect vulcanization of the stock and applied composition. The pigment in the applied composition preferably amounts to 5-350 parts per 100 of (a), and may be, e.g. TiO 2 , CaCO 3 , Fe 2 O 3 or C black; a thinner, e.g. toluene or xylene may also be present. Suitable vulcanizing agents in the applied composition are 1-15 parts per 100 of (a) of benzoyl peroxide, dichlorobenzoyl peroxide, t-butyl peracetate or perbenzoate, dicumyl peroxide and t-butyl cumyl peroxide. In the example an electrical insulating tape having a white guide line is made by extrusion.
