An apparatus for determining the moisture content of a fluid using a moisture sensor E comprises a testing chamber A, an associated sensor drying chamber 6 and means for isolating the sensing element of the sensor in the drying chamber when a test is not being made and for exposing the sensing element to a sample in the testing chamber during a test, the arrangement being such that transfer from one position to the other may be effected without exposing the sensing element to the surroundings. Access to the sensing element of sensor E is through slits E1 which communicate with drying chamber B when it is telescoped into test chamber A and with test chamber A when drying chamber B is withdrawn telescopically. Sealing is effected by rings F and G. In alternative arrrangements the two chambers may be connected by telescopic bellows, or may be fixed relative to each other, the sensor being movable. Drying chamber B contains a desiccant from which the sensor is protected by a screen D.
