Abstract

1,196,970. Making press tools; die sets. PRESSED STEEL FISHER Ltd. 27 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 53113/67. Headings B3A and B3W. A press tool for blanking and/or trimming is made by cutting a first punch portion 13 from a metal sheet 16 and a second, smaller, punch portion 12 from a sheet 15, fixing the punch portions together and fixing the remainder of plates 15 and 16 together, depositing a bead of hard weld metal 19 in grooves machined in the edges of portion 13 and plate 15 and machining the beaded edges to form co-operant cutting edges. The punch portions are secured to a bolster 11 which is slidable on posts 17 which are fixed to plates 15 and 16. Springs 18 bearing against resin bonded fabric bushes 14 hold the two parts of the tool apart. The cutting of the punch portion is preferably by flame cutting and the final machining of the edges by electro-discharge machining.
