Abstract

1,196,948. Hydrodynamic brakes. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 25 Sept., 1967, No. 43548/67. Headings F2E and F2F. [Also in Division F4] A hydrodynamic brake having a cooling system in a heat exchange relationship with the engine cooling system is characterized in that a thermal switch is arranged in the engine cooling system to actuate an electromagneticallyoperated valve which empties the brake if the temperature is too high. In a compressed air braking system, Fig. 1, low temperature in the cooling system 3 actuates switch 10 to energize left-hand coil 12, so that actuation of the brake valve 7 allows air to pass from reservoir 4 to charging cylinder 5 and force fluid into brake 1. If the coolant temperature exceeds a permitted limit, right-hand coil 12 is energized to connect the charging cylinder directly to air pressure, by-passing valve 7. Fluid then passes out of the brake 1 back to the charging cylinder 5. Switch 10 also completes a circuit to a warning lamp. The arrangement may also be used in an hydraulic brake system, Fig. 2 (not shown).
