Abstract
1,195,988. Hydrodealkylation. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 20 Nov., 1967 [21 Nov., 1966], No. 52606/67. Heading C5E. In a process for hydrodealkylation of alkylaromatics, particularly toluene, at elevated temperature and pressure, the reaction product is hydrorefined without previous separation into gas and liquid phases, said hydrorefining being conducted under the dealkylation pressure, at a temperature of 50-350‹ C., a space velocity of 2-10 kg/litre of catalyst/hour, and over a catalyst comprising at least one metal of Group VI or VIII and/or an oxide and/or sulphide thereof, separated gaseous products and at least part of unreacted constituents and products of secondary reactions being recycled to the dealkylation after separation of required product. The hydrorefining catalyst is suitable as an oxide and/or sulphide of cobalt and/or molybdenum, suitably supported on alumina. The hydrodealkylation is suitably catalytic, e.g. over Cr 2 O 3 [K 2 0/A1 2 0 3 , at 570‹ C. rising to 630‹ C. The dealkylated product has lower bromine and H 2 50 4 -test numbers, without significant increase in naphthene content, as compared with conventional processes.
