Slip hooks; automatic-release hooks.-A releasing-hook for supporting boats &c. comprises a frame with side members 1, 2, and central and back members 4, 3 with recesses 5 for the hook 5<a> of the supporting-tackle. A holding-bar 12 is mounted on a pin 9 and has a notch which engages a locking-lever 10 mounted on a pin 8, and a lug 14 which engages the back member 3. The end 16 of the lever 10 is engaged by a lug 17 on a weighted latch 18 pivoted at 19 to the frame and having a pin 21 which engages a cam surface 22 and a hook 23 of a tripping-dog secured to a pin 24 journaled upon extensions of the frame. A lever 27 is secured to the pin 24. The end 16 of the lever 10 engages a bar 30 in the unlocked position, Fig. 2. The latch 18 is normally supported by a lever 33 having an arm 34 which is moved by the hook 23 on raising the lever 27. The movement of the lever 33 is limited by a stop 36. The lever may be locked in position by a pin 38, or a pivoted bar secured to the frame. The device may be tripped automatically. The pin 38 is then withdrawn and the lever 33 thrown back. When the boat reaches the water, the strain on the bar 12 is released, and the weighted latch 18 falls by gravity. The device is secured at each end of the boat to the keel. A bracket 45, Fig. 7, is secured under the rail of the boat and carries two pulleys which are relatively adjustable, to which cables 60, 61 are .secured, and which are jointly operated 'by a crank 50 normally secured by a loop 59 in an inoperative position. In a modification of the device, applicable to derricks, cranes, &c., the mechanism is inverted. The frame comprising two spaced members is provided with a supporting ring, and a gravity holding member and locking latch. The supporting lever 33, Fig. 1, is dispensed with.
