Cartridges of materials.- A cartridge for use in an acetylene - generator comprises a tin or like container a provided at the top with a pin-hole f and at the bottom with an opening over which is fitted a perforated tube b enclosed in an envelope c of cardboard or other porous material which is corrugated in form so as to be capable of yielding to the pressure resulting from the expansion of the carbide h; the pin-hole f and the opening in the bottom of the container are provisionally closed by reinovable seals d<2>, d. More than one tube b may be provided, and the carbide may be enclosed in a muslin or like bag. According to the Provisional Specification, the cartridge may consist of a canister having an orifice at or near the bottom and a pin-hole at or near the top.
