Abstract

1,195,597. Air conditioning; refrigerating; heat pumps. HITACHI Ltd. 8 Nov., 1967, No. 50775/67. Headings F4H and F4V. A system for cooling and dehumidifying the air in an enclosure comprises two heat exchangers 3, 4 through which outside air will be forced by a fan 40 and two heat exchangers 7, 8 through which room air is drawn by a fan 27, this air entering via apertures 26 and returning to the room via outlets 28. A changeover valve 10, Fig. 2, enables fluid in a refrigerating system which includes a compressor 1 to flow through the exchangers 3, 4, 7 and 8, in that order, the exchangers 3, 4 acting as condensers and exchangers 7, 8 acting as evaporators whereby the air is both cooled and dehumidified. On changeover of the valve 10, the refrigerant flows from the compressor 1 through exchanger 3 and valve 10 to exchanger 7 and through a capillary tube 9 and the exchanger 8 to return to the compressor. Under these conditions, which are operative when the room air is initially at an acceptable temperature but the humidity is too high, moisture will be removed by the exchanger 8 which cools the room air and exchanger 7 will re-heat the air back to the original acceptable temperature. The refrigeration circuit also includes another capillary tube 6 and a check valve 5 through which the fluid passes when the condition shown in Fig. 2 is operative.
