1,194,719. Making rings; angular bending. LENINGRAI SKOE SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO POLIMERNOGO MASHINOSTROENIA. 19 Dec., 1967, No. 57498/67. Headings B3A and B3E. Apparatus for bending wire into an endless ring and welding the free ends together comprises a pair of arms 11, 12 with clamps 13 to grip the wire and which rotate through 180 degrees to bring the ends of the wire together for welding. The wire is fed through a straightener 1 by feed rollers 3, 5 until the leading end abuts a stop 15. The wire is cut by a shear 4 and gripped by the arm 12. The feed rollers 5 slip on the wire and the stop 15 is removed. The arm 12 pivots to pull the severed end through the rollers 5 and it is gripped by the arm 11 which pivots through 180 degrees simultaneously with the arm 12 to bring the ends together. Several cutter blades are mounted side by side in the shear 4 and are selectively actuated by solenoids to cut different wire lengths and hence difference size rings are formed. The arms are mounted on a carriage 10 which moves horizontally while the arms are pivoting to a welding unit 7. An arm 8 then transfers the ring to a flash removing and strength testing unit 9. The movement of the arms and the clamp is controlled by cams (not shown).
