Abstract

1,194,589. Stabilizing polymers. CHAS. PFIZER & CO. Inc. 4 Oct., 1967, No. 45323/67. Headings C3P and C3Q. Chlorine-containing polymers are stabilized by the addition of a mixture of (a) a compound of the formula and (b) an organo-tin maleate having the formula or where n is an integer; X and X 1 are each -COR 3 ; aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl of 6-9 carbons; alkyl or alkenyl of up to 18 carbons which may contain up to three substituents selected from hydroxy, alkoxy, alkylthio, carboxy and carbalkoxy; and R, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are alkyl or alkaryl of up to 18 carbons or aryl, aralkyl or alkaryl of 6-9 carbons; there being 1-4 parts by wt. of (b) per part of (a). In the examples the mixture is added to vinyl chloride homopolymers and copolymers with vinyl acetate, 2-ethylhexylacrylate, vinylidene chloride and acrylonitrile, polychlorobutadiene, chlorinated polyethylene, polydichlorostyrene and chlorinated rubber. Stearic acid is added as lubricant.
