Abstract

1,194,558. Battery lamps combined with measuring tapes. QUENOT & CIE S.A.R.L. 6 Sept., 1967 [7 Oct., 1966], No. 40685/67. Heading F4R. [Also in Division G1] A tape measure comprises a casing 2 having a window 4 for viewing the scale on the outermost turn of the coil of tape 3, a battery 9 and a light source 10 for illuminating the window and a switch controlled by a push-button 13. When the tape measure is placed on a surface to be measured, the button 13 is pushed into the casing thereby causing a contact blade 15, 18 to touch a terminal 19 connected to the battery. The light is therefore switched on since the source 10 is connected to the blade 15. An additional switch may be provided to switch off the source 10 when the measure is used in places already adequately illuminated. A further window 8 enables the withdrawn portion of the tape to be illuminated.
