Duplex systems and apparatus; simallaneous telegraphy and telephony.-A system of duplex telephony consists of two independent telephones a, b at the same station, one telephone a being connected across a metallic circuit f, g through a transformer c; while the other telephone b is connected between the middle point e of the primary winding of the transformer c and earth. The earth connexion of the telephone b contains an inductance h and a capacity i. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, a telegraphic apparatus is placed in the earth connexion, and a switch q is provided to disconnect a capacity m when the telegraphic apparatus is operated. A large inductance j prevents telephonic currents from passing to earth through the capacity m.
