Precision mechanism (such as an electrical measuring instrument) has a moving system which comprises a ribbon 3 supporting a spindle 1 secured thereto by wedges 4, 5 and which is characterized in that the spindle 1 is a tube through which a solid ribbon is passed and the tube has at both ends portions 6, 7 with guide grooves 8 centering the ribbon along the longitudinal axis of the spindle and recesses to accommodate the wedges 4, 5 on which are provided longitudinal projections 10 to lock the ribbon in the grooves. The inner portion of the ribbon is separated from the outer, effective portions by a transverse projection on each wedge. A hole 9 in the spindle 1 enables the ribbon to be positively secured thereto and the spindle may be made of metal or a ceramic.
