Abstract

1,193,118. Knitting machines. STIBBE MACHINERY Ltd. 4 Nov., 1968 [3 Nov., 1967], No. 49986/67. Heading D1C. In a circular machine a pattern mechanism comprises a bank of selectors actuated by programming elements pneumatically operated at the dictates of pattern tape. The tape, racked by a pneumatically operated pawl 42, passes over a manifold 50 to which air is supplied. Holes 51 in the top of the manifold in alignment with the longitudinal lines of holes in the tape, permit exhaust of air if a tape hole is immediately above. If a hole 51 is covered by the tape, air will flow through the conduit 58 in communication with the base of hole 51. The pattern of holes in 'the tape determine which ones of air cylinders 34 are actuated to influence programming levers 26. Alternate levers are straight or bell-cranked respectively to give room for the cylinders which are arranged in two corresponding banks. Selector slides 24 mounted in a bank 20 are pushed radially inwards by selected pivoting levers 26. In a rotary cylinder machine one bank is provided for each knitting station and the ends 24a of the slides act directly on the jack or needle butts. In a stationary cylinder machine one bank of selectors slides sets butt contacting slides 14 provided in a bank for each station on the rotary cam box. Slides 24 rotate star wheels 19 fixed to elliptical cams 18 which determine whether the slide 14 is advanced, or retarded by spring action.
