Abstract
1,192,372. Digital data processing. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 15 May, 1968 [18 May, 1967], No. 23128/67. Heading G4A. Programme execution in a digital data processing device is stopped on reaching a predetermined instruction address. Towards the end of execution of the current instruction in a microprogramme-controlled computer, the next instruction is read from store and the instruction count is incremented by one in preparation for accessing the nextbut-one instruction. However if manual switches are suitably set, execution of the current instruction in each case is followed by execution of two further instructions (not from the store) before execution of the " next " instruction. The first further instruction decrements the instruction count by one, and the second further instruction (which is actually set up on the manual switches) obtains the difference between the new instruction count and an address field of the second further instruction, and if this difference is zero the computer stops. If non-zero, the " next " instruction referred to is performed, and so on. The second further instruction increments the instruction count by one to cancel the decrementing done by the first further instruction. The invention may be applied to the system of Specification 1,192,371 which is referred to.
