Abstract

1,192,368. Microprogramme control arrangements. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 7 July, 1967 [11 July, 1966], No. 31099/66. Heading G4A. The micro-programme store of a microprogramme control arrangement of a stored programme data processing device is divided into three parts, the first part storing set-up micro routines used in the set-up operations required for different main programme instructions, the second part storing unique microroutines each of which is relevant to a different main programme instruction and the third part storing resultant processing micro-routines used in the distribution of the results of the different main programme instructions, a selected routine from each part being performed in response to the selection of a new main programme instruction, the routine from said second part being selected by the main programme instruction code, the routine from said first part being selected by micro-address modification arrangements under the control of said main instruction code and the routine from said third part being selected by an address in the last microorder of the routine from said second part. The arrangement avoids duplication of micro routines which are common to a number of main programme instructions. The invention is described as a modification of the micro-programme control system in Specification 1,105,245.
