Abstract

1,192,256. Re-arrangement of phenyl silanes. DOW CORNING CORP. 26 June, 1968 [24 July, 1967], No. 30430/68. Heading C3S. Phenyl silanes in which the silicon valencies not satisfied by phenyl are satisfied by halogen and/or C 1-8 alkyl groups are re-arranged by heating with an acidic aluminium phyllosilicate or an acidic aluminium silicate of the Zeolite type having a port size large enough to permit entry of the silane. When using a mixture of silanes, not all the silanes need be phenylsubstituted. Temperatures may range from 50‹ to 600‹ C. Suitable phyllosilicates are clays such as kaolinite, nacrite, halloysite, montmorillonite, bentonite, vermiculite, nontronite, illite, chlorite and attapulgite, and acid-treated micas. Amounts of silicate are generally from 2 to 10% by weight of the silanes.
