Abstract

1,190,432. Animal feeding. TELEDICTOR Ltd. 20 June, 1968 [6 June, 1967], No. 26004/67. Heading A1M. [Also in Division G4] In a system for controlling the feeding of cows each cow carries (either around its neck or implanted under its skin) a radio transmitter so that when a cow enters a combined feeding and milking stall it can be interrogated as to its identity and an appropriate amount of feed, which may depend upon its current and past milk output and its history of disease, can be dispensed. The radio unit carried by the cow may include batteries, but it is preferably powered by rectifying the r.f. interrogating signal. Each cow can be identified by a different combination of frequencies produced by oscillators in its radio transmitter. The central control unit stores a record of each cow's milk production and history of disease, which is updated whenever a cow is milked. In particular, a continuous examination of the milk produced is made and if mastitis is detected an indicating lamp above the milking stall may be energized to warn the cow man.
