Abstract
1,190,130. Explosive compositions. HERCULES Inc. 30 Dec., 1968 [29 Dec., 1967], No. 61766/68. Heading C1D. A non-aqueous blasting composition, from which a nitrated polyol is substantially absent, contains an inorganic oxidizing salt and, as an energizer, 2-18% of silicon and/or a silicon alloy containing at least 70% silicon, the silicon component substantially all passing a 30 mesh U.S. standard sieve. Suitable oxidizing salts are ammonium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and barium nitrates and sodium, calcium, magnesium, and ammonium perchlorates. The composition may be of the ANFO or NCN type and include 1-8% of a supplemental fuel, e.g. particulate Al, sulphur, gilsonite, finely-divided coal, mono- and dinitrotoluene, ethylene glycol, granulated sugar, paraffin wax, nitroparaffins, and hydrocarbon fuel oils. A small amount of finely-divided clay may be present to make the compositions cap-insensitive.
