Heading C7D A metal sample is prepared by stamping it out of a main sample body taken from a melt so that the stamping operation provides one or more oxide-free surfaces. An embodiment comprises cutting a disc from the sample body, leaving the planar disc surfaces oxide-free, and stamping a sample out of the disc. Another method is to grind two opposite sides of a sample of substantially rectangular cross-section, and then stamp out the sample such that the surfaces between said ground surfaces are oxide-free also.
