1,188,959. Anthelmintics. CHAS. PFIZER & CO. Inc. 4 Aug., 1967 [18 Aug., 1966], No. 35900/67. Headings A5B and A5E. [Also in Division C2] Anthelmintic compositions comprise a 2-[2- (2-thienyl) vinyl or ethyl] pyridine of formula: wherein R 1 and R 2 are each hydrogen or methyl and X is ethylene or vinylene, or a non-toxic acid addition salt thereof, together with a carrier. The compositions are for veterinary use and may take the form of capsules, tablets, liquid aqueous or non-aqueous suspensions or solutions, wettable powders, dry mineral mixtures and salt licks, feed mixes, and concentrated pre-mixes for addition to feedstuffs or drinking water. The water insoluble acid addition salts are preferred for use in the compositions; such salts include resin adsorbates and the suramin salt. The compositions wherein X is vinylene are light sensitive and are stabilised by enclosure in dark capsules or brown bottles. The invention includes a method for veterinary treatment and prevention of helminthiasis comprising oral administration of the compositions or compounds. A disinfectant composition for treating an area infested with nematodes comprises a 20% aqueous solution of 3-methyl-2-[2-(thienyl) vinyl] pyridine hydrochloride.
