Abstract

1,188,206. Continuous selective electroplating apparatus. KIRKBY PROCESS & EQUIPMENT Ltd. July 31, 1968 [Aug.22, 1967], No. 38682/ 67. Heading C7B. A selective electro-plating machine has at least one elongated tank 10, through which articles 56 to be plated are passed into one end and out the other, e.g. trailing from a jig 58 which engages on a cathode rail 46 via a grooved wheel 60, and in which are located a pair of weirs 24, 26 adjacent each end 10e, d, at least one weir being adjustable in height whereby the height of electrolyte in the tank between the weirs is controllable by adjusting the weir height so that only part of an article, e.g. an electrical relay contact spring, is electro-plated, e.g. with gold. Electrolyte flowing over the weirs is withdrawn from the end parts of the tank, e.g. via drainage pipes 28, 30 which lead to reservoir 32, and preferably re-circulated e.g. by pump 34 via pipe 36 to the part of the tank between the weirs. Each adjustable weir may include a fixed plate having a slot in its upper edge and an adjustable plate for partly or wholly exposing the slot to adjust the over-flow height. Above the tank and adjacent the rail 46, an endless conveyer chain 52 may be located with pusher dogs 54 thereon which push the articles through the tank.
