Abstract

118,813. Howe, O. L., and Bergstrom, H. April 17, 1918, Small-arms combined with liquid and g a s discharging weapons. - Consists in combining gas or liquid discharge apparatus with a rifle. In the construction shown, a container 5 for gas under pressure is detachably secured to the stock 1 and communicates with a pipe 6 having an outlet near the gun muzzle. The discharge of the gas is controlled by a valve 8 operated by a pushbutton 10. The forward end of the container, with the pipe from the valve, takes into a recess 15 of a lug 12 adjacent to the trigger guard, the opposite end 17 of the container being spring-supported within a housing 18; and the pipe follows the line of the trigger guard and stock, being retained in position by straps 20. According to a modification, the muzzle extremity of the pipe is telescopic and is supported upon a detachable bracket. The gascontainers, which may be situated at other positions upon the rifle, are of convenient size and weight to enable several to be carried upon the person and are provided with capped outlets when the discharge-control valve is placed upon the pipe on the rifle.
