Abstract

A rigid member 1 with a peripheral groove 6 and a flexible tubular booting 10 with an internally beaded end are secured to each other by inserting the bead 11 in the groove 6. The completed assembly constitutes part of the manipulator arm of a manipulator as described in Specification 1,045,666. The invention is concerned with the method by which the booting is attached to the member 1, which is as follows. The member 1 is fitted inside an annular element 8 where inner surface is complementary to that part of the member 1 immediately below the groove 6 and whose outer surface is conical. The member and element are then placed inside the booting (as in the upper part of Fig. 1) and all three parts are then pressed into the bore of the hollow support 12 (as in the lower part of Fig. 1). The member 1 alone is then pressed further into the bore so that the bead 11 is pushed along the conical outer surface of the element 8 and ultimately enters the groove 6. The interconnected booting and member I can then be removed from the support 12 leaving the element 7 in the conical part 16 of the bore.
