Abstract
1,187,255. 1 - (2 - Dimethylaminoethyl)- 1- phenylindene-N-oxide. MEAD JOHNSON & CO. 6 Oct., 1967 [1 Dec., 1966], No. 45964/67. Heading C2C. The invention comprises 1-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)-1-phenylindene-N-oxide and its pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salts and their preparation by oxidizing, with hydrogen peroxide or a peracid, 1-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)-1-phenylindene and if desired converting the resulting N-oxide into an acid addition salt thereof. 1- (2 - Dimethylaminoethyl)- 1 - phenylindene may be prepared by reacting 2-dimethylaminoethyl chloride with the reaction product of 3- phenylindene with sodamide. The compounds of the invention have antidepressant properties.
