Abstract

1,186,745. Basic dyes. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 25 July, 1967 [26 July, 1966], No. 34133/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises basic dyes of the general formula wherein R is a hydrogen or an optionally substituted methyl or ethyl radical, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radicals, R<SP>3</SP> is hydrogen or an aryl radical, X<SP>(-)</SP> is an anion, and A is a diazo component of the benzene or naphthalene series free from ionic water-solubilizing groups. They are prepared by coupling an appropriate 4-methylene dihydropyrimidone or a cyclic quaternary ammonium salt thereof with a diazotized amine, the product being protonated or when R above is not hydrogen, alkylated. Coupling takes place in aqueous medium at pH 4 to 7 and alkylation in organic solvents, e.g. hydrocarbons and halohydrocarbons, at 40‹ to 100‹ C. optionally in presence of an acid binding agent, e.g. magnesium or zinc oxides. The dyes dye polyacrylonitrile in yellow, orange, red, scarlet, violet and brown shades.
