Abstract

1,186,469. Dispensing liquids under gaseous pressure. W.R. GRACE & CO. Oct.31, 1968, No.51632/68. Heading F1R. A gasket 19 is applied to an aerosol dispensing container mounting cup 10 by treating a band of gasket material with a liquid swelling agent, which is a non-solvent of the material, placing the swollen band over the skirt 12 of the cup with its lower edge overlying the juncture between the skirt 12 and the channel 14, and removing the swelling agent from the band, so that it frictionally engages the skirt 12. The inside diameter of the band before treatment is less than the outside diameter of the skirt. Examples of gasket materials described include a cured natural rubber composition, with hexane as the swelling agent, and a P.V.C. composition, with ethyl acetate as the swelling agent, the swelling agents being removed by evaporation at room temperature. Dimensions of the gasket are given.
