Abstract

1,185,957. Coatings. SIMONIZ CO. 24 April, 1968 [1 May, 1967; 15 March, 1968], No. 19410/68. Headings B2E and B2K. [Also in Divisions C3, C4 and C5] Substrates, e.g. of metal are coated with a composition comprising: (I) the product of reaction between at least one dimethylsiloxane copolymer containing one or more primary or secondary amine groups, a compound containing an acid group reactive with the amine of the copolymer and an oxidised wax containing carboxyl groups; (II) water; and (III) a liquid hydrocarbon solvent for the copolymer reaction product I. The copolymer of I may have the formula: in which R 1 and R 2 are independently C 1-3 alkyl groups or alkoxy groups; A 1 and A 2 are independently OH, C 1-3 alkyl groups or OH terminated dimethyl siloxy units -O-Si(CH 3 ) 2 -OH; B 1 and B 2 are independently H 2 , HCH, CH 2 NH 2 , R 3 H, R 3 NH 2 or R 3 (R 3 NH 2 ) 2 where R 3 is a C 1-10 alkylene group; n is an integer of 10-1300. A preferred copolymer has the formula: The composition may contain 0.5 to 9 parts by wt. of the copolymer, 0.01 to 0.8 parts by wt. of the acid group containing compound, 0.1 to 2.4 parts by wt. of oxidised wax. 10-80 parts by wt. of the solvent and from 5 to 70 parts by wt. of water. The composition may additionally contain 0.1 to 1.2 parts of a clay derivative, up to 1 part by wt. of a gelpreventing surfactant, 0.2 to 3 parts by wt. of a liquid polyorganosiloxane (e.g. a polydialkylsiloxane and from 2.5 to 15 parts of an abrasive containing an amine-reactive compound (e.g. one which has been washed with a compound containing an acid group. The compositions are suitable for applying detergent resistant coatings, e.g. for car finishes, chrome plate, glass and vinyl upholstery.
