Abstract

1,184,736. Rollers. N. GREENING & SONS Ltd. 28 Feb., 1968 [28 Feb., 1967], No. 9439/67. Heading F2U. [Also in Division D2] A moulding cylinder for papermaking machines comprises circumferentially spaced rods 19 extending axially between end plates 10, (11) and supporting axially spaced rings or convolutions of wire 20 having a wedge shaped section. The wires 20 have a rounded outer surface 23, are separated by spacers 22 and carry a wire mesh cover. Rings 18, 18a and radially adjustable spokes 16 provide additional support for the rods 19. The end plates 10, (11) are fast with a driving pulley 14 and with a hollow shaft 12 which is freely rotatable on a fixed support shaft 13. The axial distance between the centres of adjacent wires 20 is between 3 mm. and 9 mm. and the gap between adjacent wires 20 is between 1 mm. and 5 mm.
