1,184,267. Digital transmission systems; automatic exchange systems. SIEMENS A.G. 16 Aug., 1968 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 39186/68. Headings H4K and H4P. A programme-controlled exchange has a transmission control unit UeSt, which transmits data to and receives data from feeders TS, and an operation control unit BeSt, which processes the programmes. The exchange includes stores Sp and UeSp connected as shown, the store UeSp being used for establishing connections for feeders (e.g. for P.C.M. speech channels) having transmission speeds high relative to those of other subscribers. When a low-speed subscriber calls, the feeder address is stored in UeSt and a cycle of store Sp requisitioned. The feeder-addressed call of store Sp being empty when a connection is to be set up, a signal register allocation programme demand is made on unit PrASt, and when a store Sp cycle is again available the feeder address and programme number are pased to a programme section of store Sp. Subsequently, BeSt reads the programme data from Sp and the programme starts. The signal register address is fed to the addressed feeder call in store Sp. When a high-speed subscriber calls, unit UeSt reads the call in store UeSp allotted to the feeder, giving the feeder address. The signal register allocation programme demand is set in PrASt and the programme selected and started as described above. The signal register address and feeder address in Sp are read out to UeSt, and UeSt writes the signal register address in the feeder-addressed call in VeSp. Dialling pulses are fed to the signal register.
