Abstract

1,184,237. N-Tritylamines. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 12 Oct., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966], No. 46639/67. Heading C2C. Tritylamines are prepared by reacting a tritylchloride Friedel-Crafts catalyst complex with a primary or secondary amine in an inert solvent at 0-100‹ C., and separating the tritylamine product from any adduct formed between the amine and the liberated catalyst and/or hydrogen chloride, at least one mole of the primary or secondary amine being present for each mole of the complex. The preferred complex is with aluminium trichloride. A tertiary amine may also be present in the reaction mixture.
