Abstract
1,183,916. Explosive compositions; calcium phosphate. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 29 Nov., 1968 [29 Nov., 1967], No. 56921/68. Headings C1A and C1D. An explosive composition comprises an aromatic nitro compound and from 0À1-15% by weight of calcium phosphate of specific surface 10-50 m.<2>/gm. and bulk density 0À01- 0À07 gms./c.c. The calcium phosphate increases the detonation capacity, improves thermal and impact stability, and reduces liquation at elevated temperature. The aromatic nitro compound may be trinitrotoluene or trinitrobenzene. In examples, the following substances are also present: aluminium powder, hexogen, tetryl, PETN, and chlorinated naphthalene. The calcium phosphate may be made by mixing phosphoric acid with calcium nitrate or calcium chloride and spraying the resulting solution or paste into an inert hot gas stream.
