Abstract

1,183,606. Building pneumatic tyres. UNIROYAL Inc. 28 April, 1967 [27 May; 1966], No. 19715(67. Heading B7C. So as to avoid a differential in tensioning of the innermost and outermost plies of a multi ply carcass tyre built on a shouldered, cylindrical drum 32, the innermost ply or plies only so on are laid into a groove 40 in the building drum so that the actual bead-to-bead length of the innermost plies is equal to that of the outermost plies. There may be a groove 40 adjacent each drum shoulder (Fig. 6) or at the junction of the cylindrical and radial surfaces 36, 38 respectively (Figs. 8, 9, not shown),or a single groove at the drum mid-circumferential plane.
